Audience questionnaire
From my questionnaire i learnt that my audience are from all ages and they all have different a different visions and interpretation in regards to what sort of theme and what sub-genres they like. I also learnt that how often they watch horror movies, what there favourite horror sub-genre is, what they would like to expect from a horror movie and many more.
Survey result analysis
Survey Analysis
For our questionnaire we asked 7 people altogether (2 teacher, 4 boys and 1 girl) for our questions. However we found out that many of their results are similar and that they all have similar opinions and prefer having the same type of settings, endings and etc. we have shown the results in the charts below. “How old are you?” Through this question we found out that our audience are mostly teenagers, and if we want to be successful with our short opening that we are going to make we have to link it with them in regards to their mindsets and interests and what they would expect in a scary horror opening. “How often do you watch horror movies?” The majority of our audience said that that they don’t watch horror movies that often, but it doesn’t mean that we cant make a good horror opening for one of our audience that said they watch a lot of horror movies. “What is your favourite horror sub-genre?” The answers that we got back from our audience were quite near the same. One of the teacher and the male student said that they prefer “Thriller” and another two male students said that they prefer “Slasher”, so we probably think that I want to slasher and thriller combined so I could have the majority of my audience happy. “Do you like it when a movie starts with a flash back?” In the results that I got from my audience was that 4 of them preferred the horror opening to start with a flash back, so I will probably have that in consideration if I saw a flash back would have a god link with our story. What gender do expect the main Character/villain to be? The majority of the answers that I got from our questionnaire was male unfortunately, because our group thought that It would look better if female played this part in our opening, because we thought it would make it more realistic. But the use of having some one that would be a trans-gender could make it seem and look more unique and different to other horror opening that you would see. “Would you expect a happy ending from a horror movie?” All of our audience said that they wouldn’t prefer a happy ending in a horror movie, so in that in mind we not have a happy ending in our horror movie. “What do you think is the best location for a horror movie?” there are different ideas and perspective that my audience have in regards to a good location for a good horror location but they all had something in come, which either a forest or a haunted house, but I personally like what my teacher said at the end that we can have a location with out and service, because I think that you rarely see that in horror openings. |
Finalised pitch
After speaking to my group we came up with a finalised idea and we changed a few things to improve the opening scene and make it more effective for the viewer. The opening scene starts off with 3 girls in the park who are drinking. One of the girls (Jessica) gives a mysterious drink which has the drug in it to the main character (Andrea) she drinks it hesitantly and shivers with disgust. The camera cuts to the main character going home on the bus, she is having very strong hallucinations and she is sweating and shivering on the bus, people start to giver her concerned stares which makes her feel uncomfortable so she gets off the bus. She begins to walk up her driveway, she is swaying back and forth, the hallucinations are still very strong. She enters her house and picks up a knife from the kitchen. The scene starts to go into slow motion so that we can build tension and make it look scary, she is still hallucinating as she is walking up stairs, we are going to add deliberate glitches to create tension and make it more creepy. She walking into her brothers room and violently kills him with the knife. The camera cuts to the next morning she wakes up with a bad headache and unaware of the previous knights events, she looks down at her hands and on her bedsheets and sees them covered in blood. Her mother walks into the little boys room and sees her son dead, we do not see this happen we only hear her mother scream as she is looking at the blood confused, this is effective because we are using the power of the unseen against the audience to play with tier emotions and make ten want to carry on watching. As soon as we hear the scream there is a close up on the main characters face, her facial expression changes from confusion to realisation as she instantly remembers what she has done. The camera has a black out. This opening scene will be similar to the conjuring 2 as we got inspiration from the scene where the woman is walking in slow motion killing all the people in the house and it will be sort of like an out of body experience because the main character in our opening scene won't be in a right state of mind since she is under the influence of very strong drugs.

Mise en scene
Coustume, hair and make up
The characters will be wearing casual but smart closthing. Jeans blouses and heels as they have just come from college. I have takes inspiration from these pictures because the different styles brings out each ones different personality yet still makes them look innocent.
The first picture will be Jasmina as she is a very quite character who doesnt say much in the opening scene. She doesnt drink or smoke often only when Jessica manages to persuade her. The simple clothing and white top will show the fact tht she is more a shy and innocent girl who isnt as outgoing.

The second picture will be Andrea as she is a very girly and friendly person who isnt as shy as jasmina at the same time isnt as daring as Jessica. She is hesitant to drink and smoke as she doesnt usually rebel as often. The baby pink and white will show off her girliness but will also show tha she is innocnet but not quite as simple as Jasmina.
The third pciture is what Jessica will wear she isnt as smartly dressed as the others, she is the most outgoing and daring friend who is always going to parties and rebelling against rules. She is the one who persuades them both to come to the park for drinks. The red top is to symbolise danger as she is the one who gives Andrea the drugge drink which causes her to murder her brother. It also shows us that she likes to dress more sexy than her friends as she likes the attention.
Their hair will be quite simple and standard either left down or tied up which is the same for make up. We will buy fake blood for the killing scene.
After she takes the drugged drink her hair willbegin to stick to her body and neck from the sweat and her face will begin to change to show that the drugs are affecting her physical appearance. I will be doing speacail make up to acheive a disheveled drunk look.

Props
A prop that will be used in our opening scene is a knife and drink bottles. The knife will be used when the main actor is killing her siblings and she will also use the drink bottles at the beggining when she is getting drunk with her firends. We wanted to use the knife for a more dramatic and explicit effect, when the main character holds the knife up and stabs the brother in his sleep, there will be a close up on the knife and when she god to pull the knife out it will be in slow motion with a close up to make it have more of an effect on the viewer.
we are going to use these ibuprofen capsules for the drugs. We decided to use these because we want Jessica to put the drug in Andrea's drink without her realising. Jessica is going to pull apart the two pieces of the capsules and pour the 'drug' inside the drink. This will make the audience suspicious as they do not know what has been poured inside the drink. In the opening scene this 'drug' will have a very strong effect on her and will make her hallucinate.
The bottle we are using will be a simple drink bottle, which will be filled with water or juice to act as alcohol. If we use this bottle this will make it more realistic towards the audience that the actors are drinking an alcoholic drink, so we can make the drinking scene more real. It wouldn't be that expensive to get a bottle that is shaped like that and to have juice in it.
location
In the opening scene we will have two locations. the first one will be in a house where the girl kills her siblings and the second location will be outdoors, she will be on a bus going home for some time and will get off and walk home from the bus stop. We want the house to have a corridor between the kitchen and the siblings room. This is because, when the main character is walking to her siblings room we want to have the scene in slow motion to build tension and make it look more creepy. We also wants to have close up on certain parts of her body while she is walking to highlight those parts. We also wants to add glitches and eerie music while she is walking to give it a more dramatic look and play around with the audiences emotions. We chose to have a scene outdoors at night because this is a classic scene in horror movies when people get attacked and scary things happen.
The first and second pictures is where we are going to be filming the drinking scene, it is either gong to be on a park bench or on the swings.
The third picture is just the entrance of the park where Andrea and her frinds will be filmed leaving, while they are swaying back and forth from being drunk.
Lastly, the last picture is the road leading down to my house where the main character will be filmed walking.

The first picture of the bedroom is a picture of the main characters room, we will be filming the scene of when she wakes up the next morning will blood all over the bed sheets. The room further highlights her girly and innocent personality as is it mainly pinkand white.
The next picture is Andrea's brothers's room, this is where the main killing scene will be, there willbe a lot of tension as soon as she comes home and it will all be leading up to the moments when she kills herbrother. We will use fake blood to cover the floor and his clothes tomake it more realistic.
The next indoor picture is the corridor when she is walking to the brothers room, the moment she reaches the corridor that is when there will be the most tension, the music will get louder and her movements will get a little more violent.
The last picture is where we will be filming her going up the stairs, this is when we will be adding the glitches and slow

Actors
In our opening scene there is going to be 5 actors all together but we will only see four of them. The main character, the two brothers and the attacker. There is also going to be the main character's mum in the opening scene but we will only hear her voice, she wont be seen. As soon as the main character realises that she killed her siblings we will hear a loud scream from the mother when she walks into the siblings room and sees her children dead. This will make the audience curious as to how the children look, we are using the power of the unseen to have more of an effect.
This is Karina, she will be playing the part of Jessica who will be the character to give Andrea the drugged drink. I chose Karina to take the role of Jessica, because she has most of the dialogue in this opening scene and because Karina acheived an A* for drama i thought she would be a good fit for the role. Another reason i chose Karina for the role of Jessica is because Karina is already a very fun and bubbly type of person in real life so i wanted her to take the role of Jessica as she i the one of the three friends who is the most outgoing and always pushing them to have fun.
This is Annie, she will be playing the part of Jasmina, she is more quite one of the two she is just sitting with them very drunk and her words and laughs are slurring. I chose Annie to play the part of Jasmina because Annie studied GCSE Dance, she achieved an A* in this and also has experience in being on stage as she has performed live shows.
This is Lara, she will be playing the part of Andrea who will be the character to take the drugged drink. I thought it would be a good idea for her to play the main character because the opening scene was her pitch/idea so i feel she would be able to achieve what she has imagined it to be in her head. It also saves us time from trying to find another actor who is confortable with being on camera for a longer period of time.
Soundtrack
For our soundtrack, I didnt want to use music throughout any of the scenes inside the house. For those scenes i wanted it to in absolute silence in order so that the audience are completely focused on the main character is doing. The deadly silence will help build tension. However, when she does certan movements e.g. taking the knife out of the knife holder i want the sound to be exaggerated and loud so that it adds to the creepines of the action and highlights the prop to show the audience that someone is about to be hurt with that knife. For the scene when Andrea is in the park with her friends me and my group decided to use music to play in the background to show the audience that they are listenting to music, but i want to words to forshadow the fact that something bad is going to happen in the end. To show this i suggested a song by Rihanna called Man down. I picked a well known song because i figured that as these girls are quite popular girls in college that they would listen to popular and well known song. I also picked this song because it is about killing someone.
In the lyrics you can hear Rihanna saying "i didnt mean to end his life" and "what started out as a simple altercation turned into a really sticky situation". I think that having this playing in the background when the three girls are at the park drinking would be effective because its forshadowing the killing of Andrea's little brother. Its explaining that what started out as a little meet up with drink between the friends turned into a 'sticky' situation where someone was murdered. Its also explaning how she didnt mean to end her brothers life, as she was under the infulence of some very hard drugs which made her do it.
For the scenes when she is on the bus and then walking home i want a soundtrack that builds tension and i want it to get louder and louder untill the point where she goes to open her, as soon as she shuts the door the music will cut off and thats when the silence begins. I thought this soundtrack would be fitting for that because it is the kind of music that builds tension, its exaclty what i had in mind. Around the 45 secondmark in the soundtrack you start to hear drums which sound like heart beats, i thought this would adda good effect because it could show how fast her heart is beating the hallucinations would compliment the music.

Titles Design planning
The design of the titles is important because you can show the audience a rough idea about the opening scene through the font, colour and design of the titles. If the movie is horror you can show a little bit of that through the title design, for example, the titles could be ed to represent blood to show that there will be killing in this movie or the writing can show up surprisingly to create a bit of a jump scare to show that this movie is going to have a lot of jump scares and unexpected events. In my group I had a task to go and research the title design and planning. This meant that I had to research for some ideas and find out which font and size will be the best for our opening scene. Whilst researching I found a website called ‘www.Dafont.com’ which helped me in many ways and made my job easier as it had already a variety of fonts and sizes that I could choose from, however it was also a good idea because as I wrote the title of our opening scene the variety of different fonts straight pop up which means it is a very good website for us as it will design the titles for us or maybe give us some ideas.
