Comedy
The comedy teaser trailer of ‘Rush Hour 2’ starts of with a nice and gentle voice over from a man talking about tradition and history about a country and you get 3 second shots of China, this gives a good perspective to the audience about how china is like. Then towards the end of the mans voice over he says you “Spiritual people are in for the ultimate cultural shock” then there is a chines bang then you hear ‘Chris Tucker’ known as ‘James Carter’ trying to be funny by dancing and singing in a Chinese gangsta club a Michael Jackson song. Then there are shots of ‘Jackie Chan’ know as ‘Inspector Lee’ running away with James Carter away, which make it look like they done something terribly wrong by dancing and singing in the club. Then it starts to introduce the actors by having their names in the centre of the frame and then it shows them doing something funny, so the movie can attract Jackie Chan Fans and Chris Tucker fans to come and watch the movie. Towards the end of the trailer the voice over the man comes back into and tries to sum the movie to the best extent by saying that he movie will be more funnier and more hilarious than the first one.
Action
The action teaser of ‘Skyfall’ starts off with showing the production and distribution company and then when you hear the roar of the lion from the Metro Goldwyn Mayer you then start to hear a rising violin within starting off slow and smoothly and then continuing with a specialist asking James Bond (Daniel Craig) single words that and he would reply in a single word on how he feels with a response. The intention of this is to show how the main character is feeling and a bit about him in regards to how he is with his mind-set. Me as the audience seeing the responses from the main character James Bond is showing that he is very fearless and aggressive, which is a very good thing, because it is supposed to be shown that he is like that. When the specialist asks him words there are two second shots of the main character doing or being a part of the question that the specialist is asking him. This shows that James Bond being an MI6 agent being everywhere and doing everything that fulfils his job description, so he can either arrest or kill villains that are planning bad stuff. When it comes to the end of the questions you hear Skyfall and there is a one second shot of James Bond being somewhere with his gun that shows he was somewhere that he can relate to. Then there are immediate shots of places where they can relate to James bond showing why he is getting very angry.
Romance
In the trailer of ‘Titanic’ the trailer starts off with a flash back and then it shows a Manned submersibles is going deep under water and you can corner of a ship and you hear, ”Titanic was cold, the ship of dreams and it was, it really was”.
The use of repetition of, “was” really does suggest that the titanic ship and the experience the old lady had been like dream. Then there is an introduction shot of the two main characters on the edge of the ship leaning forwards and enjoying there time and showing the atmosphere that they are in. After the music in the back ground starts to become more loud and joyful as it then shows the two character ‘Leonardo DiCaprio’ known as ‘Jack’ and ‘Kate Winslet’ known as ‘Rose’ what they sort of background they are from. After the trailer showing the sort of people that are going on the boat are middle/ upper class you see the male actor saying, “got everything right here with me that I need” and he is sitting in a table with upper class people that he may be a good sort of player that can change his attitude and role to become what ever he wants. Then there are quick shots of the women giving him a look that she may really like him and then jack says, “life is a gift and I don’t intend to waste it”. Afterwards there are immediate shots of them two dancing and being romantic to each other and showing how much they really like each other. Then the mood of the trailer towards the end starts to change as the music starts to change more dramatic and then you hear from Rose saying, “when the ship ducks I'm getting of with you”. Suggesting that she has got ultimate love for him and they really want to be together even though roses family won’t allow people from working class. Then there are slow motion shots after the ship that had started to sink and you see Rose and Jack enjoying each others company and then everything starts to hit them by water breaking through glass and every where being filled up with water and leaving them no where to escape. The intention of this can be very touching to the audience seeing this trailer, because it would make them watch, because it leave a touch on the audience that they would really enjoy it and get upset for them. Towards the end it shows that they have really worked hard together to get at the end of the ship so they can have more time together, because it shows that the weather is freezing and cold from the reaction of the other people. There are a voice saying, “DO NOT LET GO OF MY HAND”, which emphasises more how much he really cares about her. Then she replies, “I will never let go” showing how much she really cares about him.

Horror
The trailer of ''Black Swan'' revolves around a rather artistic theme, combining binary opposites in order to challenge the viewer and interest them in the plot. It starts off with narration, ''I had the craziest dream last night. About a girl turned into a swan. But the prince falls for the wrong girl and... she kills herself.'' The narration starts off seemingly normal, but gets twisted very fast. This intrigues the viewer, and even though it seems that the plot has been revealed, the viewer is still interested due to the fast plot reveal which disorientates them. There are shots of the main character practising and there seems to be someone with her, without her noticing at the begging and this continues throughout the trailer suggesting to the audience that she is a bit pyshco and normal at the same time. The narration is also on a top of a clip a girl, performing ballet. The girl is in a dark room, with a spotlight on her. Even though the spotlight is on her, she is still in the dark. This contrast once again is very intriguing and creates an enigma code. The woman walking alone may indicate her isolation from the rest of the movie, possibly singling her out as the main character. However this may also be applied to the shot of the male walking alone, grasping onto a book. The trailer seems to have a progressive story line, as there are shots of the man and woman walking together, conversation. It gives the viewer the impression that they may have been right about the connection about these two characters. The more the trailer progresses, the more intense the music gets. As the vocals kick in, the scenes start to get more violent. Scenes such as escaping gunfire, the female holding one, and a lot more shots of the protagonists running. The titles are very cleverly placed at the end of the trailer, embedded within more movie shots together with the beats of the song. The last title shot is just ''coming'', leaving the viewer with an extreme cliffhanger. Despite the fact that the trailer had a very vast amount of shots, almost nothing was revealed due to it's fast pace, which is what intrigues the viewer.
Psychological Thriller Sub-Genre Research
Psycho
In the trailer of “Psycho” it starts of by showing very quick and immediate shots of someone in the shower trying to hold themselves up or try to hold a grip on the wall, then it shows there on the floor and by the positing of the foot, quickly it goes to the curtains and it shows that there is someone that is trying to pull the curtains away, so he or she can attack this person that is taking a shower and then there is a quick 2 second shot of the person that was the cause of this but there face is in black. I personally really liked what the director has done by not revealing the face, because it gives a nice mystery to the audience, so it would make them curious in regards to whom it may have been. The sound that has been used quickly wakes up the audience and puts them on their toes, because it very instant and its very loud, which really relates nicely to what is happening in the scene. Then it starts to introduce the location of where the crime had happened and it says, ”This used to be a motel, but in fact now it has become known as a scene of a crime” then it gives a one second shot of a lady. I really like that the director has decided to state and show the location and the voice over that gave the information is very good, because it made seem very realistic, but there is a one second shot of the person who it could have been murdered, which I really didn’t like, because it didn’t really go with the flow of the mystery, because if I was in the directors position I would have made the person who was murdered as a mystery as well. Towards the middle it starts to show a man that works at the motel and then there are three to four second shots of the man and women intimate together, then it shows an envelope probably with cash and then there is a voice over, which causes another stir for the mystery that is going on and then it shows the man looking towards where ever the camera is suggesting, that the man may have been the killer.
Then it shows the killer who is slowly taking the body out of the bathroom and then it shows the credit of the person who presented with a spooky font. Towards the end it shows that the police are involved in the situation to see who it was and once they start to integrate the man who worked at the motel it shows that there could have been a possibility that it could have been that man, because it consistently shows two sides of the character just acting a creep. Then once it shows the title of the movie then it shows the man giving a creepy smile making it look like it was him all that time.

The Shining
In the trailer of “The Shining” it starts of with a voice over introducing the plot about the main character about what he does for a living and what sort of person he was and then it starts to go down hill with what got into him and what he eventually done with his family. While the voice over was happening there was a good set of shots of the location, where the story starts and happens and then we get very good shots of the main character trying to run like a zombie with an Axe and start to kill his family. Then there is a shot after the voice suggesting that the main character is a psycho, because he seems pretty normal at the beginning but then after it shows what he does that is unthinkable. After towards the middle of the trailer there is a voice over from a kid talking to his mum saying, “do really have to go to that hotel in winter” suggesting that its not the first time that they are going to this hotel, this could suggest that this boy has seen and experienced something that wouldn’t have been good for someone his age. As the boy is speaking to his mother you can see the father (the main character) giving a creepy smile suggesting that he is going to potentially do something very dangerous to this poor kid. Then it shows the location many times through different angles suggesting that they are in a middle of nowhere and that they are going somewhere where its very isolated and trapped that even if something was to happen, no one would be able to help the mum and the child. Towards the end of the voice over of the boy the mum says,” it will be fun” and the boy replies,” yeah
I guess so”, which this could suggest that the mum could potentially be evil as well and then bang there is a two second shot of the boy being in shock and scared, suggesting that he has been through this already. Then it starts to show the lobby/ reception of the hotel and the voice from the beginning comes back on and then it starts to zoom into the fathers face, looking like he is ready to cause trouble. Then it starts to show that a women is running away and there is a man trying to chase her and then after that point most of the thriller starts to show of what the main character tries to do with his family. In general I really liked the trailer, because the from the beginning towards the end the tension was consistently rising by the use of voice overs and the shots of the location, which this has inspired me that I might use some of those techniques in my trailer.

Shutter Island
In the trailer of, “Shutter Island” it starts of by showing different shots of, the first shot we see is a very large ship that is going towards an island that doesn’t seem very good or approachable, then we get a two second shot of the main character that is going to be playing as the detective. It shows that they are going to towards a mental hospital in the island and they say if you want to enter you have to give your firearms if you would enter and there is a very nicer slow motion shot of the main character giving his gun to the guard of the island. This could suggest to the audience that the main character is setting himself up for a very big disaster. Then there are slow transactions from the main characters going towards the hospital and then it starts to focus towards one of the patients, which looks very scary and mental towards the main character, that he should be very careful during his time in the hospital. Then it shows that the patient is showing a “shh” towards the inspector that what ever that is going wrong may or could be her. There is a very nice sound effect that as the women starts to put her fingers towards her mouth the sound of her trying to, “Sshhh” leads to the inspectors going to towards restricted areas within the hospital. Afterwards toward the middle of the trailer there are quick shots of medicine, injections and appliance that the nurses and doctors use towards the patients to make them unconscious. Then it shows the main character is in the room of the patient at the being that told him to, ”Sshhh” and he is trying to look around the room and see how she may have escaped a very secure bedroom. Then a supervisor from the mental hospital says,” as if she evaporated straight through the walls”. The effect of this the supervisor saying this really starts to build up tension and can get the audience really scared and worried about what’s going to potentially happen to the inspector. Immediately after the supervisor says his quote there are very quick and immediate shots of someone face that is changing while they are having an interview with the inspector, which can really start to freak out the audience. Then it starts to show different locations within the island where the patient could have escaped, but it still it shows that they been up to no good with this case. Then towards the end it shows that he gets hint from the people who is interrogating that he should leave and runaway. This even makes the audience curious and put them into the inspectors position suggesting that something is happening that every one is lying to him. Towards the very end it shows that the inspector is having a very big argument with the inspector about the hospital and then there are shots of that the inspector goes through with him going to places within the hospital where he wouldn’t be allowed, him speaking to some scary patient that do not look approachable and him starting to shoot some people with a shot gun suggesting that he is not messing about. I really liked the trailer as whole; it looked very professional and nicely positioned within the scenes and I might use of the quick shots that they used in the interviews.
Inception
In the trailer of the, ”Inception” it starts of with a voice over by the main character talking about how an idea, could potentially change the world and how bad it can get. By seeing this as the audience this could suggest that the main character may be a scientist that is going to fight a battle with other scientist that maybe planning on finishing the world. Then there cool shots of the surface folding together, which this could make the audience become more interested and wonder to themselves what is going to happen next. The soundtrack in the background is very influencing and tension building while all of these disasters is happening. While there is the main character in action or pursuit of a case there is a voice over, which even makes the audience wonder what the main character is going to do, because the main character says, “ An idea, that can transform the world and can rewrite the rules, which is why, I have to steal it”. This automatically makes the audience wonder and ask themselves what is he going to do next? Which this is a very good thing, because it will attract a lot of people towards this movie. Towards the end it questions itself whether they manage to achieve and get the power to run the world. I didn’t really like this trailer that like the others, because it a bit too straight forward and it didn’t have that many mystery or that something special about it that would make it stand out in its specific sub genre, but I did like the use of voice over that would engage with the audience.
Audience Research
According to BFI, ‘‘watching films is one of the UK's most popular leisure activities''. Many films, including mainstream ones, carry a personal message within. Many adults consider their childhood movies to be influential in their lives. However, many films appeal to a certain kind of audience.
Child Audiences
The key for a movie for children/ younger audience would be a good plot: story – telling. One of the most successful company, which manages to run this very well has to be Pixar, because unlike other companies they, teach children valuable lessons and morals and this automatically gets the adults attention showing them animated movies isn’t just for children. In conclusion, the key to appealing towards a younger audience is putting an emphasis on writing good characters, developing an original story, and honing screenplay until it is perfect.
Teenage Audiences
Trying to appeal to teenage audiences its more different than children, because are able to recognise more complex themes, therefore a movie like, ‘Wall.E’ might be too simple for them. Therefore, they find that relatable themes more appealing when watching a movie. Teenagers love themes that include parodies and humour that is included, such as, ‘American Pie’, because it can show how some people really are trying to get to second base with there girl friends or some people even trying to speak to girls in general. Overall, a successful teenage movie requires for the movie itself to build a real community experience, and be an active part of the teen community.
Adult Audience
The importance of a good adult movie is like how to make a children movie, good story-telling/ plot. However its more complex, because it has standout and from teenage movies and it needs to be very interesting that adults can relate to from work and their lifestyle and by that I mean it had to be very realistic and it has to give a message that wouldn’t leave the audience clueless.
Gender
Specific genres are always aimed towards stereotypes specific genders and by that I mean action films are targeted for male adults and romantic films are targeted for females. But this stereotypes is not always true, because some women might watch action films, which will break the stereotypes and the same can go for men watching romantic/ drama films.
Ethnicity
Ethnicity movies are movies that usually are aimed for audiences that are from that ethnicity, e.g. the movie “This Is England” main audience would be British people who live in the UK. These movies usually build a connection with there ethnicities.

Soundtrack Research
Different soundtracks are able to convey different emotions. One of the key features of establishing a mood within a trailer is the music itself. Different genres incorporate different music themes.
Comedy
Comedy movies tend to incorporate culture songs into themselves, as this is what catches the viewers attention in the first place. Since the purpose of comedy movies is to make their audiences to laugh the songs they use or make is usually upbeat, happy songs with lyrics that aren’t too meaningful as it does not make the viewer to dig too deep into the lyrics.
Action
Action movies rely on tense music that can make an impact upon the individual. Usually the songs that they use in action movies are either popular songs with electric or rock music, and on the other side they try to add and make orchestra-oriented soundtrack into them. This usually happens because the music that I usually in action films have to be very up beat and needs to be able to create tension, so it can keep the audience on their toes and excited.
Romance
Usually the soundtrack in Romance movies is slow pace, low sounding instrument consisting of a saxophone, piano or violins this mix usually makes the sound very meaningful, which makes the viewers feel the atmosphere. Sometimes, the music used originates from France, as it is considered the stereotypical country of ''love''.

Poster Analysis
Black Swan
From looking at this poster I personally think that this matches very nicely to the trailer and the movie, because the use of white background with a slight grey gradient gives a look of professionalism. The crown looks very realistic and unique, because on the top it looks very sharp and dangerous, while it looks very nice and pure. Additionally, this movie is made for the viewership of mature audiences, which further enforces the fact that they could relate to it. If they would to, it gives the poster an icy, eerie feeling just by looking at this one item. The face of the character is very pale and it looks like it blends with the background, which this could make it a good effect as it could suggest mystery sign. Having the main character in the centre and having sides of her ears slightly out of focus is a very good technique because it can suggest that the main character is coming towards the audience, which can be kind of freaky. The make up that has been used to make the is very good and consistent with the design of wings on her eye lashes and towards her eye brows look very realistic and serious. I like the positioning of the title where it is, because if they were to put it on top of the crown or tiara it would have taken the focus of the crown/tiara. By them putting the title in middle below her face, makes it unique and professional. Having the awards that they have won on the side of her face makes more people to go to the cinema and watch the movie, because of the award that they have won. The positioning is very good, because its near the title, which automatically makes the audience read more, because they can see.
Inception
on The poster for “Inception” looks very cool, unique and creative, because of having the idea that road is about to overlap or flip them. The colours that have been used relates and links very nicely to the plot/story, because in the trailer it was showing that they are running on a tight schedule to steal a power, so they can run the world and change all the rules. Whenever, anyone goes through a stressful time they usually don’t tend to see the world as a colourful or happy world, so by using dark colours can link to reality. Having the actors name on the top is a very good idea and it looks very different to the black swan poster. Having Leonardo DiCaprio’s name outstanding from all of the other actors is a very good idea, because he has a very huge and big fan base and he is well known, so that is a smart way of attracting people to come and watch the movie. There is a slogan in between the roads and street under the actor’s name. This is a very good affect, because this makes although it may be small it is still there in front of the audience. The positioning of the actors is very smart, because in terms of bringing more audiences they have placed Leonardo central and towards the camera, so when his fans see the poster they will be the first people watching the movie. The positing shows that he may have a lot of authority and power within the film because there are people behind him but they don’t seem to have any guns and they look smaller, which can suggest that they may not be as important as Leonardo.
The Shutter Island
The poster that has been made for Shutter Island looks very good, because they have used all off the place that they have had available. The use of having the main actor “Leonardo DiCaprio” on top with a match stick that is already on fire looks very smart and unique, because if you have seen the trailer of the movie there is a little scene that makes the audience jump. What happens in the scene is that the main character is walking in the dark with a matchstick and he puts the matchstick towards a prison cell and the monster comes towards it and it makes the audience jump. The lighting that they have used that you can see half of his face is very good, because it can show that half of him wants to be at the mental hospital and the other half doesn’t want to. They have used the main characters name in a big font, so it will attract many more people to watch the movie, because Leonardo has a very big fan base and many people like the film he plays. The positioning of the title above the island is and the slogan underneath the island looks very nice and organized. The slogan that they use is very catchy, which is very good, because it would make more people interested to go and watch the film.
Magazine Analysis
The magazine cover from Total Film cover for inception, advertisement looks very good and a lot of meaning to it. As you can see they have used all of the space in the frame and very wisely and effectively. By having a catchy slogan such as ‘the mind blowing issues’, being on magazine will make a lot of people to come and watch the movie, because it sets the tone of what sort of genre that the movie is going to be. The design on Total Film looks very neat and professional, because it was shown by the trailer that the building and the roads were colliding and were turning upside down. So by showing having a roof top design on total films will make the audience wonder what it could be about. By having the main character in the middle of the page will attract a lot of people to watch the film, because Leonardo DiCaprio has a very big fan base that a lot people are willing to pay to watch his films. The lighting that has been used on the main character shows that he is very serious. By having other information and events on the side is very good, because it will keep the viewer busy and interested to read more, because everything is short and simple, which it wouldn’t be difficult for all ages to read and get information about movies and events. On the sides there are advertisements for all ages, such Toy Story 3 vs Shrek 4 is attracting little children to force their parents to purchase this magazine because there could be more information about what the children like. There are informations all around the magazine which makes it look busy and professional where more people are willing to purchase this magazine and it shows that its suitable for teenagers and onwards.
This magazine cover from Fangoria for ‘Black Swan’ looks a bit simple and boring. The slogan above the magazine title looks very good and has a lot of meaning to it, because it links very nicely with the trailer and the font and the design of the slogan make it outstanding. But the magazine looks too boring and it feels repeated, because the poster for black swan looks exactly like this magazine, which goes to show Fangoria haven’t been creative by changing the design of the magazine. By having four images of famous scenes from old or new horror movies won’t attract a lot of people to purchase this magazine, because it looks very last minute and unprofessional. The events and movies names on the side looks too boring and they could have done a better job with the fonts they have used, because it doesn’t give it a horror sort of look. The back ground colour looks too boring and dull, because it doesn’t make the charter stand out or make her in the spotlight to make her fans to come and watch the movie and purchase this magazine.
This magazine cover from Empire looks decent for the movie ‘The Shinning’. By having the slogan, ‘ The 500 greatest movies of all time” immediately attracts a lot of people to watch the shinning, because there is only one image of a horror movie, which makes it out stand from the rest of the horror movies. The way that the slogan is overlapping from the title looks very good and unique. By having the main actor of the movie in action immediately gets the attention of the viewer, which they would ask themselves what he was in the middle of doing, which make them more curious and curious to know what he was doing. Having a quote probably from the movie beside the actors face is very affective, because it rises the tension between the actor and the audience. The design of the background where there is black with little white dots looks very simple and boring and to be honest as an audience i don't really understand or know what that is suppose to represent or trying to say and that lets the magazine as whole down and it doesn't really look professional.
